Jan 19 Legal Crime 1.2.2 beta has been released.
Dec 3 Byte Enchanters and Wireplay have agreed to include Legal Crime in Wireplay's premier service. There is a special, customized version of LC distributed for play over the Wireplay network.
Dec 2 LC Personal Server 1.0a has been released.
Nov 5 Legal Crime 1.2.0 beta has been released.

Sep 19 Legal Crime 1.1.8 beta has been released.
Sep 11 CrimeTalk 1.2b has been released. This version works with Windows NT, too.

Aug 14 Legal Crime 1.1.7 beta was released.
Aug 7 Legal Crime 1.1.6 beta was withdrawn.
Jul 8 Legal Crime 1.1.6 beta has been released. It has several bug fixes and a new rule set (fixes for the ghost bug etc).

Legal Crime 1.1.5 has been released. Changes:

Since the last version (not including the long list of changes since the last non-beta version):

  • A problem with certain single-player maps fixed
  • Synchronization bug fix

Legal Crime 1.1.4 has been released. It contains a bunch of changes that were released with 1.1.1 and 1.1.3 betas and found stable.


A file archive has been included in Alcatraz. This way the players can share their maps, scenarios etc to their fellow players.

Jun 2 Legal Crime 1.1.3 beta has been released.

This week's vote showed that 4-player games are the most wanted ones for Legal Crime. Next week we ask which institution (the army, the police, FBI or the politicians) the player most preferably bribes in LC.


Several modifications have been made to Alcatraz:

  • 80 families have been removed due to inactivity
  • It is no longer possible to have spaces in the beginning or end of any Alcatraz text.
  • on the inmate list page it is now possible to select only those users who have a certain rank in the family (don, capo, capo regime etc).
  • the statistics page has been changed to include the new ranks and links to the inmate list page.
May 25 Legal Crime 1.1.2b has been released. This version should fix the syncronization problems with 1.1.1b.
May 18 Several new ranks have been included in Alcatraz. Here is the updated list of possible ranks: Don, Capo, Capo Regime, Informant, Underground, Gangster, Newcomer, Candidate, Black Sheep, Self-employed.
May 15 Doc is voted the best player in Alcatraz.The next vote will be over which is the most honorable family.

May 8 Newbies is the most popular new channel for LCBBS. Next vote is about the best LC player in Alcatraz.

Crime Talk 1.1 has been released. New features include IRC-like commands, such as ignoring, channel administrators, shows joins & leaves etc.

Changes in Alcatraz:

You can now send your friends e-mail about Legal Crime. There are four templates to choose from; blank, inform a friend about LC, invite someone to join your family and challenge someone for a game.


The user view and family view now show the date that the data was created and last modified.

Apr 14 Legal Crime was among the top ten multiplayer net games in Gamespot's review.
Apr 01 Legal Crime BBS has moved to a new address. This allows easier moderation and lots of new features. Search is already there, and passwords and multiple boards will be soon.

Beta 6 was released.

Main changes:

- New voices added. Not final.
- Shift-# selects and centers to ganster group.
- It is now possible to set building to quick key by using ctrl-#. After that pressing # view is centered to that building.
- In join game or start new game screen by pressing escape key, current chat text is removed.
- Diagonal scrolling.
- h-key centers to HQ.
- Music added
- Map size up to 200*200 is supported now.
- Hitman is weaker.
- Police car is much cooler looking now.
- When no ganster is selected and g, a or e quick key will be pressed, game doesn't crash anymore.
- Some machines suffered slowdown when text is printed to screen. We hope that is fixed now.

Beta 5 was released.

Main changes:

- Bug fixes in the chat
- Suicide is no longer possible
- No longer is the money in a neutral business available to the player who starts to extort the business
- Added the display for players' relative ranking.
- Separate ending screens for the winner and the not-so-succesful.
- a couple of crashing bugs fixed.
- two new gansters: shotgun man and hitman
- You can no longer speed up your ganster by giving the go command several times in a row.
- It is no longer possible to cheat by giving the extort command several times in a row.

Beta 3 was released.

Main changes:

- Beta 2 had a bug that makes a multiplayer game fail after one player has been defeated. We have fixed that.

- LCdata.bin file is created automatically. The game asks for the license number.

NOTE: if you make a mistake when entering the number, you can copy your old LCdata.bin file over the new one.
